What teachers should know...
- Students need to have certain skills before they do a TPS:
- Can they actively listen? (see Mark Strickland’s presentation!)
- Can they paraphrase?
- Can they listen without judging peers?
- Teachers should decide beforehand:
- "How will I direct the students?" (i.e.: amount of wait time given)
- "What level of thinking will students be doing?"
- "How accountable will I make the students?" (Share w/ a partner; share w/ the class)
- "How will I deal with incorrect answers?"
- "Who will sit with ELL/ESL, less social students?"
- It is also important to think of ways to prevent one student from doing all the talking (i.e.: using Numbered/Lettered heads*)
